Grace College took over Warsaw’s Kroger on Feb. 1 to participate in the12th annual Supermarket Sweep.

Supermarket Sweep is an opportunity for Grace students to join the community and Mission Point Community Church in donating to local food banks, according to Grace College’s Campus News & Blogs page.

Students raised $10,791.16 for this year’s Supermarket Sweep, according to Grace College’s Instagram. That money went into purchasing 7,233 items to be donated to those in need within the community.

During the event, students competed to win several categories. The first category was most items purchased, which went to Beta 1, having purchased 3,248 items. The second was the most money spent by a group with gift cards, the winner of which was Omega 3 men with $1,343.57. Finally, the most money spent per person without gift cards was Kauffman with $100 per person! The Instagram account @lancerlife announced these winners.

The event is a friendly competition between halls as they attempt to donate and raise more money than their competitors.

Before the event, the Instagram page @lancerlife provided challenges for students to win Kroger gift cards. Camp Chaos was another event in which students could win gift cards to contribute to their hall’s Supermarket Sweep fund. Students are also encouraged to ask friends, family and Grace professors to donate toward helping others. Challenges were also available during the event so that students could win even more Kroger gift cards.

Challenges included finding a 100-calorie snack, a pushup competition, guessing how much money Grace donated toward last year’s Supermarket Sweep and finding rubber duckies hidden around the store.

Excited students searched for various groceries, hygiene products, snacks and baby products such as canned goods, oatmeal, granola bars, baby food, soap and toothpaste.

If you were unable to attend this year’s Supermarket Sweep, the event will be back next year.
